Root & Clay was already growing before the dandelions hit. I’d built the brand from the ground up – formulating clean, low-tox products in my lab workspace and sending each order out with care.
But nothing could’ve prepared me for what happened when I posted a video about my dandelion salve on TikTok.
It exploded.
The comments, the orders, the shares – it all snowballed into something wild. I went from steady sales to nonstop demand overnight. Suddenly I was working 12–15 hour days just trying to keep up with production, labeling, packing, and shipping. For months.
All because of a plant most people mow over.
Why Dandelions?
Dandelions are more than just weeds – they’re potent little powerhouses for the skin. Packed with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, and nourishing vitamins, they’re ideal for calming irritated, dry, or reactive skin.
I’d been infusing dandelion oil and making this balm for my family long before TikTok got ahold of it. It quickly became a go-to in our home for:
• Bug bites
• Rough or cracked skin
• Eczema-prone areas
• Cuticles, heels, elbows
• Basically anything angry, dry, or itchy
It worked. And when people saw that it worked, they told everyone.
From Backyard Blooms to a Breakout Product
The Root & Clay dandelion salve is made with:
• Dandelion-infused oil – anti-inflammatory, skin-soothing
• Castor oil – rich, thick moisture barrier
• Beeswax – locks in hydration
• Essential oils – to support healing and offer a gentle scent
• Vitamin E – antioxidant protection
Each ingredient serves a purpose. Nothing extra. Nothing fake. And every single jar was (and still is) made with intention.
A Viral Moment That Changed Everything
That viral TikTok didn’t just boost sales – it forced me to scale in real time. I was already running a business. But now? I was running a viral brand. I had to increase production, streamline shipping, and dig deep to keep my standards high while filling hundreds of orders a day.
Was it exhausting? Absolutely.
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.
Because it showed me how many people are looking for something better. Something real. And that’s what Root & Clay is all about.
